Dear Vote Solar Hiring Team,
Throughout my career, I've been most drawn to work that helps people understand and care about issues that matter. Writing, storytelling, and marketing have given me the opportunity to do that in many different ways, including four years helping share the mission of Bok Tower Gardens and, most recently, communicating complex environmental and conservation issues with Pacific Forest Trust. When I saw the opportunity to join Vote Solar as Campaign Communications Manager for the West, it felt like a natural opportunity to bring that experience to an organization working toward meaningful solutions to climate change.
At Bok Tower Gardens, I worked closely with leadership and across departments to find and tell the stories that brought its mission to life. My work spanned strategy, writing, photography, video, social media, email, web, print, and live events, and helped drive significant growth in our social media reach and audience. Some of the work I found most meaningful was supporting conservation and philanthropy, from documenting the work of horticulturists and rare plant conservation staff to creating personalized videos that showed donors what their support was making possible.
My work with Pacific Forest Trust has allowed me to build on that experience in a setting focused specifically on environmental conservation. Working closely with scientists, conservationists, stewardship staff, and organizational leadership, I've focused primarily on writing and editing, translating complex topics—including forest health, climate resilience, wildfire, conservation easements, restoration, and policy—into clear and engaging communications. I've also worked with the development team on donor communications, newsletters, annual reports, and other materials that connect supporters to the impact of PFT's work. That experience has deepened both my understanding of environmental issues and my belief that strong communications starts with understanding the work and the people behind it.
That is part of what excites me about the opportunity to support Vote Solar's work across the West. I've spent much of my career moving between the big picture and hands-on execution—identifying stories and opportunities, collaborating across departments, working with outside creative partners, and creating written and visual content myself. I believe that making meaningful progress on environmental issues requires more than good policy. It also requires helping people understand why those issues matter and how the decisions being made affect their communities and their futures. The opportunity to apply my experience alongside Vote Solar's policy experts and advocates, helping build support for clean energy solutions that benefit communities across the region, is particularly appealing to me.
I'd be excited to bring my experience in environmental communications, writing, digital strategy, and storytelling to Vote Solar and contribute to its work advancing a cleaner and more equitable energy future.
Thank you for your consideration,
Keith Novosel
